Right - You can see the pits and burrs that were ruining my fork seals and causing them to leak. The fork oil was gushing out quickly (a week and it'd be gone) and making a mess!!

To the left and below, the sanding process. I did a little initial sanding with 180 and 220 grits, but did most of the sanding with 320 and wd-40 as seen below. You can go all the way to 600 grit if you feel it's necessary.

Here's a close-up with the sanding finished and cleaned. When cleaning, get all of the "WD", any petroleum distillate, or other cleanser off and out of the pits. |

I waiting 72 hours for the "JB-weld" to completely cure before wet sanding (wd40), again with 320 grit waterproof paper. You must sand until you don't feel any surface variation. |

| Below you can see the results. Eight months of leakage!! | ||

I did this work in April, 2003.
To the left, you can see the leakage I've had since I performed the fix. I waited this long (December, 2003) before posting the results to see If it was worth the effort. I'd say it was. This is a major improvement and very minor leakage after 8 months. I made sure not to clean it all this time...until today, of course.

....was to spend a good deal of cash for a new tube. That's at least $200 or more, or buy a used tube or set. I have to admit, I'm tired of spending money on this bike after the initial expense of restoration from the junkyard. It was way too much, and I was looking for a Goldwing, which I did find. I think replacing one tube on a bike is...looking for a whole set of problems. You need to buy two new ones or find a whole used front end to insure they're matched. I don't know how bad a mismatched set could be, I've never done that, but that's my feeling on the mater. This amount of leakage is miniscule and keeps the bike whole.
