Sohc Honda CB Motorcycles

For this demonstration, I'm only replacing the new clutch plates I installed a year and a half ago, with the originals I'd removed at that time.  See the divots on the original plate (left), the new ones are smooth.  Due to the big bore (836) and reground cam, my bike explodes at 6300rpms, which I do almost once a day and I've been concerned the new plates will begin to slip.  When installing the new plates, notice one side is beveled and one side is sharp...make sure they all go the same way.
As you load the clutch, put a light film of motor oil on the disks and plates.  Start with a friction disk (above left), remembering the direction of the grooves between the pads, then a clutch plate.  Do this alternately until the assembly is packed. 

I found there are different parts for many clutch baskets.  According to the dealer and the book my '76 K engine is 'spose to have a center, double plate and an outer "type B" friction disk.  I tried both these parts, in every possible way.  My assembly only excepts 7 disks and 6 plates.  Maybe yours will be by the book.  Little about my bike is by the book.
