This is the needle jet (as seen from above).  After removal, if any corrosion or pitting is found, I highly recommend replacing them with new jets.  I noticed a major improvement in overall performance and operation...making the carbs much easier to tune.

 

   (Below) To remove the needle jet, get a 1/4 inch, HARDWOOD dowel (A pine dowel is too soft!!).  Taper the end slightly, with a pencil sharpener until it's the same size and the end of the jet.  Carefully line up the end of the dowel on top of the needle jet and gently tap with a hammer.  You may be able to feel the jet coming loose, from there you can push the jet out by hand.
