I don't like to spend much time off the bike, so I bought two gallons of Berryman's and dunk the 1-2 carbs in one can and the 3-4 in the other. (Below right) All lined up and waiting to go in separately. Berryman's instructions indicate at least half an hour. Many people leave carb parts in over night. This depends on how bad the carbs are. This time I new I'd done this 2.5yrs. ago (10,000mi.), so I put them in for a little less than three hours. They weren't in bad shape. Later, I put the jets in for about 2hrs., one carb at a time in each can. Don't get them mixed up...so they go back in the carb they came out of. Don't put ANY gaskets in the carb cleaner. Any metal gaskets (float valve gasket) can be cleaned with WD-40 or replaced.

Consider the same order when dunking the rest of the parts. They - the bowls, the jets, etc. must go back on the carb they were taken off. You must either dunk the jets from each carb separately, or find a way to keep them apart so they don't get mixed up. Do the same with all parts...sliders and adjusting rods, everything. |
