Sohc 4 cylinder CB series Honda Motorcycles - 1969 thru 1978
Forum and Message Boards Index.

The Single Over Head Cam Four Cylinder CB series Honda Motorcycles built between 1969 to 1978 were made with some of the toughest engines ever put in any motorcycle ever.  It is not unusual for '69 - '78 SOHC 4 cylinder Honda CB to reach 100,000 miles or more, and there is record of SOHC CB motorcycles reaching 300,000 miles when well maintained.  Maintenance includes regular oil changes, valve adjustments, ignition timing and point adjustment, synchronizing the carburetors, also adjusting and lubrication the drive chain, fork oil.  Even spoke tension and tire presure or important to the longevity.  Carburetor rebuilds or a good cleaning needs to occur on a semi regular basis.  If this maintenance is followed by spec, the '69 thru '78 SOHC 4 cylinder Honda CB series motorcycle can be ridden fairly hard and can still be expected to last a lifetime.  The SOHC 4 cylinder Honda CB motorcycle was made in various engine sizes including:  CB350, CB400, CB500, CB550, CB650 (until 1983), and the well known CB750K and CB750F Super Sport models.  Many CB750s were fitted wth Weisco 836cc big bore pistons and aftermarket cams.
