I found the bike in buffalo N.Y. It was then an old drag bike. Very fast one. When I saw the wheels, I saw chopper written all over it. That is the only thing I kept. The rest I made, the frame, fender is a fifteen dollar from the surplus junk store. I fabed the dragster wing and mounted the LED tail light across the back of the wing. |

I got the motor from a local Honda junk yard. My wife polished it up for me. I made the headers from stainless pipes. The tank was a mustang tank I made into a single neck. I got the front fender off an old Harley and made the side mounts. The front brakes are attached to an aluminum mount and the rotor was made from a steel disk. I am making a new one from Inconel material. I fabricated the seat pan and then glued the layers of carpet padding to get some support. I had a local shop cover it with cheap leather. I used old Red Wing drag race front tube and had Forking by Franks add eight inches to them. I made the aluminum side covers from thin material and my wife again polished these. I'm not sure if I should keep these clear or paint them black? I get a mixed response on that subject |

I had the skull and flames painted on and I made sure he got the red wing in the side of the skull so some of the people recognized that as Honda stuff. I made all the controls from stainless bar and bolted on some pegs and levers from my son's Buel he is building a chopper out of. I modified some side motor plates from thicker steel and bolted these front controls to them. I also welded a small support tab that bolts to that same mount plate and it is welded to the inner forward control bar. The outer control just rotates as you shift or brake. It was a very clean and simple design, nothing fancy, sorta grunt stuff. I am welding on a heel shifter this week. These bikes don't find neutral too easy? Especially with the forward controls set where they are. I ride a Harley that has a heel shift and I really like it once I got use to it. This should help me smack those speed shifts when the need arises? about every few miles or so. |

This was an old ARD Mag and the bike was a drag bike. I used the neck and re-fabed a new frame to get in up out of the weeds so I could run the pipes under the frame. The pipes are made from 1-1/4 sch 10 stainless and I had a friend polish them. The motor was the c-gas national record holder until the fast suzukis came out later. The bike went 10.30's in 1970's. I shelved that motor for a more mild stock motor. The only thing I worry about is breaking that old ARD belt drive! I haven't found anyone with an extra belt. Bill James |
