Make absolutely certain the threaded terminal stud coming out of the starter doesn't move, or you can ruin the starter.  Do this by holding the second nut (closest to the starter) with a 10mm wrench.

What I did after the starter was in place, was raise the bike on to the center stand before lifting the exhaust (with a few blocks at a time) back into place.
