Loosen the 8mm allen head and 12mm fasteners that clamp the top triple-tree to the forks and stem. I used a pipe on the end of the allen wrench, but it's important to apply pressure into the hole to keep the wrench from slipping! |

I've wedged in the same board I used hold the tire in place on the 2nd page. I'd say you can just use the steering stops, but the handlebars laying on the headlight ears may get in the way. Notice I've made sure the board is contacting the heavy cloth on the tank. |

You can see here, I've used a half inch cold chisel to undo the top stem nut. There is a special tool for this, but I've had no problem, and have not damaged the nut...by doing this carefully. |

(Below) I've moved the handlebars over to the side in order to put a hammer to the bottom of the top triple-tree, and done this alternating from one side to the other. Note: You see the ignition switch in this photo because I took a number of photos at the same time, but the switch MUST be removed before pulling the top triple-tree off. The handlebars, as shown are on a rail to the side of the bike. You must support them one way or another (coat hanger?) to prevent stress on the electrical wiring. |

Yes, now that you've got the top triple clamp out of the way, the bars must be moved again so that they will not interfere with the steering stem, or fork removal. |
