(Above) If you haven't done so, it's time to undo the the battery ground.  Also slacken the clutch cable adjuster and loosen the clutch lever/left mirror hold, just enough for restricted movement, but no so loose it falls.

Disconnect the speedometer and tachometer cables (blue).  Now that both ends of the speedo cable are undone, you can pull it out of the fender and set it aside.

Also undo the 10mm nuts (above red) holding the instrument assembly to the top triple-tree.  Pull the instrument cluster out of their mounting bracket so it'll be ready to move out of the way.  My handlebar mount (right) may be different than yours, but undo it.

Be careful doing this, you can see at left, that I've put some padding on the gas tank to prevent scratching the paint.  (left) I've placed the handle bars on the headlight ears, while hanging the instrument cluster just below.  This is a little tricky and care must be used, being sure not to twist or otherwise stress any cable or electrical lines.  Consider that the wiring is aged.

You may consider disconnecting the top end of the clutch cable or even removing that lever from the handlebars to make this task easier.

Undo the 10mm bolts holding the ignition switch to the top triple tree, and hang it near the instrument cluster.
